About the Event

Ever wonder what it takes for that bowl of rice to end up on your table? And what happens when you throw it in the garbage? The journey of food waste begins long before your plate reaches you, and ends way after you throw your leftovers away! 🍲

This March holiday, go on an journey where we follow our food as it's produced through the hard work of farmers on the field, and where it ends up if we waste it. Along the way, we'll meet an army of little soldiers working to solve the food waste crisis - one bug at a time! Every participant brings home their every own rice planting kit too! 🌾

Through video, games, storytelling and experiential learning, learners will get learn about these topics:

• Understand different kinds of wastes - learners will understand different kinds of wastes that we create in our quest to get food on the table 🧆

• Black Soldier Flies (BSF) and unavoidable food waste - Through an interactive storytelling session featuring our little eco-warrior, Miki, learners will get hands on and buggy through an interactive storytelling session involving our superhero black soldier flies! Learn how our flies recycle food waste and turn it into products like animal feed and fertiliser. We'll even get to feed some feathered friends and help out in the garden afterwards! 🐛

• Rice and food waste - learners will get to appreciate the backbreaking work of farmers, see the different variety of rice (there are actually 40,000 variety of rice on this planet!) and different types of rice as well as understand the different growth stages of rice plants. They will get to see how rice are milled using our milling machine 🍚
