WHY WE WORK WITH THE BLACK SOLDIER FLY
CIRCULAR
Around the world, black soldier flies help valorise organic waste, promoting a circular economy. Waste is transformed into resources instead of being sent to landfill.
Many turn these insects into animal feed and fertiliser. We multiply that value by transforming them to biomaterials for high value applications.
Farming insects is one of the lowest impact agriculture types out there. Compared to a kilogram of beef, producing a kilogram of black soldier flies,
uses 2,000x less water
emits 10x less greenhouse gases
uses 20x less space
It's an obvious alternative.
Insectta sources our black soldier flies only from regional farms that are EU-certified for feed, ensuring the highest quality raw materials.
Biomaterials like chitosan are traditionally sourced from crustaceans, with high toxic heavy metal levels that remain in the final product. Our insects and process result in a product with undetectable toxic heavy metals.

During our waste water treatment process, we recapture minerals and protein which can be utilised as an animal feed additive.
Even our raw material - black soldier fly byproducts - valorises parts that would otherwise go to waste in the industry
Never before has there been a process to produce 100% water-soluble melanin in the quantities our technology enables us to. At pilot scale, we produce 200x more than what the industry can offer.
This opens up the ability for melanin's applications in the biomedical and organic electronics field to flourish.
